A COUPLE came with their son who is serving national service and obviously getting a fantastic headstart in investing.

An unexpected attendee was an ex-CFO of a listed company, who now manages his family funds full-time. He came to hone his trading skills.

And then there was an attractive lady remisier from Kim Eng Securiites who has Chartered Public Accountant qualification.

They were among 36 NextInsight readers who paid $150 each to attend a four-hour workshop yesterday by Charlie Lau, 67, a veteran stockbroker, on how to trade profitably in the stock market.

They learnt more than just the technical behavior patterns of stock prices.

They also gathered insights into the people psychology that sometimes drives a big part of the market, and entraps unsuspecting investors into buying at high prices or selling at the bottom of a price trend.

At the event held at the National Library in Victoria Street, Charlie (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) cited many an anecdote gleaned from his 40 years of professional experience.

The audience was all ears and showed an enthusiasm to learn.

At the end of it all, Charlie told NextInsight he was impressed with the participants as they asked many good questions and were, in that respect, different from the audience at some workshops that he had conducted in the past.

NextInsight wishes to thank the National Library for the professional help rendered and its excellent facilities.

We also thank our friends, Joan Kuan and Wang Hung Peng, for their assistance.

Finally, our thanks to Tan Su Li (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), L
ionel Leong and John Ho – and their company, Lim & Tan Securities, which sponsored the event.
